In a move to address the growing frustration with intrusive site notifications, Google Chrome is introducing a new feature that allows users to instantly unsubscribe from these notifications directly within the notification itself. This feature is launching first on Pixel devices, with a promise to soon expand to more Android devices.
The new “Instant Unsubscribe” option appears right within the notification, enabling users to tap and easily opt-out of receiving further updates from that particular website. This eliminates the need to navigate through settings menus or hunt down the unsubscribe link, streamlining the process of regaining control over your notification experience.
Alongside this new feature, Chrome is also enhancing its Safety Check functionality. This automated process will now proactively revoke notification permissions from sites that Google Safe Browsing identifies as “deceiving users into granting the permission.” The improved Safety Check will also inform users of other actions it takes, such as flagging unwanted notifications and reminding users of security issues that require attention.
Additionally, Chrome is introducing the ability to grant permissions, such as camera and microphone access, on a one-time basis.
